When my partner and I were expecting our first child together we decided to go back to our roots. The child’s paternal family traditionally gives the name. The name Milit, which means steelhead in Nisga’a, was chosen as it tied to his great-grandparent who loved to fish. We are a matriarchal nation, so our children follow the mother’s clan. I am a frog, my children are frogs. This is Milit The Frog, the design I created while pregnant and sketched when I did my third year of college. We welcomed baby Milit into the world 2 weeks after I finished third year.
